The composition of the anchor chain and the sprocket
The anchor chain is composed of several chain links. The chain links are connected by a connecting link (also called Kent shackle). Due to the particularity of the structure of the connecting link, its size is usually one size larger than that of an ordinary link to ensure that it has the same strength as an ordinary link.
Due to the large size of the connecting link, it can only enter the sprocket of the windlass vertically, otherwise the sprocket cannot engage with it. After the ship is overturned, the chain must be risked to turn the chain back, so that the chain can enter the sprocket smoothly.
